Joseph Chalom, who led BlackRockâs global digital asset efforts for nearly 20 years, has taken on a new role as co-chief executive officer at SharpLink Gaming, one of the worldâs largest corporate holders of Ether (ETH), the company announced Friday.
Since launching its Ethereum treasury strategy, SharpLink Gaming has scooped up approximately 360,807 ETH, valued at around $1.3 billion at current market prices. The company has also achieved 567 ETH in staking rewards.
Chalomâs appointment reflects SharpLinkâs ongoing commitment to building scalable, Ethereum-driven financial platforms that serve both users and shareholders.
The move also marks Chalomâs deep engagement with the Ethereum ecosystem and digital asset innovation. He played a key role in launching BlackRockâs flagship Ethereum fund, the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), which has grown to over $10 billion in assets. ETHA is the third-fastest ETF ever to reach this milestone.
âI am joining SharpLink because I see a powerful opportunity to help shape the future of financial infrastructure and decentralized finance,â Chalom said. âSharpLinkâs commitment to aligning its strategic direction with the Ethereum ecosystem reflects a bold and forward-thinking vision.â
âFew executives in the world have had the kind of impact Joseph has had in unlocking institutional adoption of digital assets, having pioneered BlackRockâs strategic entry into the space,â said Joseph Lubin, SharpLink Chairman, and founder of Consensys.
Rob Phythian, SharpLinkâs current CEO, will transition to the role of President and maintain his position on the companyâs Board of Directors.
